Overall Aim: 

 

It provides participants with relevant knowledge and skills to recognise and screen for malnutrition and provide appropriate first-line advice for people with malnutrition which meets the standards of the CQC.

 

Background: 

 

The course reviews Outcome 5: Meeting nutritional needs of the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) Essential Standards of Quality and Safety and how they can be met (Care Quality Commissions Report 2009, www.cqc.org.uk).

 

Learning Outcomes: 

 

1. To have an understanding of the CQC Outcome 5.

2. Be able to identify common risk factors for malnutrition.

3. To use the MUST nutrition screening tool effectively and implement Nutritional Support Plans.

4. To recognise and use suitable nourishing foods and drinks for people with malnutrition.

5. Use first-line advice resources.

Suitable for all Primary Care Service Providers who provides care to patients/service users in their own homes or Primary Care Settings (i.e. G.P practices, Residential, Care or Nursing Homes).
