Insight into the NHS - years 10 & 11

In view of the current Public Health England information about Coronavirus/COVID-19 and the emerging situation day-to-day, we have taken the regrettable decision to postpone all work experience placements for the foreseeable future.

This programme is aimed at students in years 10 & 11 who are interested in a career within the NHS but are unsure of the opportunities available to them.                                                                                  

Below is a brief outline of the programme. Please note this is subject to change dependant on the availability of the speakers. 

  • Talks from Trust staff
  • Talk from an undergraduate student
  • Basic First Aid
  • Project work
  • Clinical scenarios
  • Tour of a ward
  • Radiology
  • Infection control
  • Communication skills
  • Interview skills
  • Clinical skills
  • Tour of Pathology
  • Tour of Pharmacy

You will be required to present a project at the end of the programme and a celebration of your achievements will be held.

Dates for 2020:-

20 - 23 April 2020 - Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham - THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

8 - 12 June 2020 - Based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham - THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

6 - 10 July 2020 - Based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham - THIS COURSE IS NOW FULLY BOOKED

Please advise of which date you would like to be considered for.  If these dates fall outside of your schools normal work experience dates - you will need to seek permission to be able to attend.  These are the only dates that UHB offer to years 10 & 11.

  • If you do not hear back within 28 days this will have meant that your application has been unsucessful
  • Due to the volume of applications, we are unable to give feedback or confirm if we have receive your application
  • Completion of the form does not guarantee or confirm your placement as your application will need to be reviewed to ensure safety and suitability of the placement
